The recipient of the United Nations' Global Citizen Award for her efforts to alleviate poverty and inequality within low-income communities, Rose Padilla Johnson has devoted her career to helping California's underserved population. In 1991, Rose Padilla Johnson joined The Davis Street Community Center Incorporated and would would transform it into one of the state's first comprehensive family resource centers. She continues to guide the nonprofit agency to this day and has also held executive positions with community organizations such as the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, the Alameda County Childcare Local Planning Council, and the RotaCare Free Medical Clinic.

When she joined Davis Street, the agency had an operating budget of $380,000; today, its annual budget is over $15 million. Las year the organization served nearly 15,000 individuals with a myriad of services including medical, dental, behavioral health, employment assistance, utility support, child care services, emergency food and clothing. In addition to the daily services available at Davis Street - the organization also partners with the community to provide seasonal programs - like the Holiday Basket Program, Bike Giveaway and Health Fair.

In addition to the UN award, Ms. Johnson was named 2015 18th District Woman of the Year by Assemblyman Rob Bonta and was honored as a Woman of Distinction in the SF Business Times.
