Following District Judge Ruling, DACA Renewal Applications Accepted
Rose Padilla Johnson is a San Leandro, California, non-profit executive who guides The Davis Street Community Center, Inc., and provides a host of support services spanning medical care, behavioral health, food, and clothing. Focusing on the most vulnerable in society, Rose Padilla Johnson and her team assist thousands of families annually.
The Davis Street Community Center website features a link to a recent Politico article that highlights a federal judge’s move to block a shutdown of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The Obama-era initiative offers work permits and quasi-legal status in the country to those who were brought to the United States illegally when children.
Targeted by President Donald Trump, DACA has received strong support from many constituents across the country, with the US District Court judge in San Francisco ruling that the assertion of program illegality by Attorney General Jeff Sessions had a “flawed legal premise” at its core. What this ruling means in practical terms is that the DACA program is once again receiving renewal applications.
